"HO-HO-HO, It's closer than you think"
THE 28th HOLIDAY SPIRIT OF SAN PEDRO PARADE.
This year's parade will be on Sunday, December 7, 2008, starting at: 1:00 pm. It will assemble at the corner of 15th Street and Pacific Avenue, go north along Pacific Avenue to 6th Street, turn east and proceed along 6th Street to the disbanding area at Liberty Plaza, 5th and Palos Verdes Streets. This intersection is also the drop-off and pick-up area for participants.
Thousands line the parade route each year to cheer on the bands, drill teams, schools and non-profit organizations, elected officials, celebrities and corporate participants as they make their way through downtown San Pedro.
This year's theme is "Celebrating Scholars, Champions and Heroes." This year, for the first time, the parade will have four Grand Marshalls:
- Scholar Grand Marshal - Mike Lansing
- Champion Grand Marshal - Maury Wills
- Hero Grand Marshal - Dave Wesche
- Community Grand Marshal - Steve Kleinjan
This year's Community Grand Marshall is Steve Kleinjan of Clean San Pedro. Steve and Clean San Pedro are Champions in the community and give back the year by making the community a better place to work and live. The Champion Grand Marshall is former Dodger great, and current Sports Walk to the Waterfront inductee, Maury Wills. The Scholar Grand Marshal, Mike Lansing, is the Executive Director of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor and a past Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education Member. Mike Lansing has devoted his life to the education and development of children, helping to turn local youth into outstanding citizens and scholars. The Hero Grand Marshal is Dave Wesche who served his country with honor.
